The role of the Area Sales Manager – DIY Painting and Decorating will involve:
• Field sales position, selling a manufactured range of wood and floor care products including: wood preparation, woodcare, wood stain, floor varnishes, floor oils, floor dyes, floor waxes, floor polishes as well as paint products and accessories
• Managing a database of over 160 independent customers including wholesalers, builders merchants, timber merchants, hardware stores, decorating merchants and other wood and flooring specialist
• 70% of your time selling directly into independent retailers and builders merchants and 30% into the indirect channel of large distributors
• Inheriting an area with a turnover of circa £800,000
• 80% account management, 20% new business development position
• Product training and new product implementation
• Visiting accounts on either a 4 week, 8 week or 12 week journey plan
• Responsible for organising promotions, free stock, sell out / sell in, cleansing stock, discounts and managing recommended retail prices
The ideal applicant will be an Area Sales Manager – DIY Painting and Decorating with:
• Must have sold to either independent retailers, buying groups, wholesalers, builders merchants, decorating merchants, timber merchants or hardware stores
• May also consider someone who has worked for either; independent retailers, buying groups, wholesalers, builders merchants, decorating merchants, timber merchants or hardware stores – with field sales experience
• Knowledge of wood and floor care products including: preparation, woodcare, wood stain, floor varnishes, floor oils, floor dyes, floor waxes, floor polishes as well as paint products and accessories is not essential
• Merchandising skills, strong negotiation skills, and strong communicator
• Ideally some structured sales training
• Enthusiastic, committed and intelligent
• Excellent territory planning capability
